The Journey of Our Flagship: 1Home Server KNX Pro

Back in 2023, we launched the 1Home Server KNX Pro, our next big flagship product. It is safe to say it grew beyond even our biggest expectations. Here is the full story.

A Vision Before the First Prototype

Before development even began, we knew exactly what we wanted this device to be.

  • Completely local operation for reliability and privacy
  • Seamless control of Matter and KNX devices as one system
  • Tailored for professional power users like KNX integrators, with all the tools to make their workflow smoother, faster, and more efficient

It was a bold vision. Matter was still in its early days. We believed it would become the go-to standard for wireless devices, and we bet big on it.

Early Bird Launch

On June 14, 2023, we opened the early-bird launch of the 1Home Server KNX Pro. The first release already included:

  • Fully local operation
  • Advanced ETS auto-detection
  • A Matter bridge, enabling KNX devices to connect with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, including voice control

We knew this was just the beginning. In the months ahead, software updates would push the KNX Pro closer to the original vision.

First Shipments and First Feedback

By October 13, 2023, the official shipping began. Thousands of units left our office, heading to projects around the world. Almost immediately, your feedback started shaping what came next.

We also took KNX Pro on the road to our first Light + Building exhibition in Frankfurt in March 2024. It was a milestone for 1Home and an experience we will never forget.

The First Major Update: V2

This update introduced 1Home Automations, an advanced logic module with a drag-and-drop interface that made creating complex automations easier than ever. For many integrators, this was the moment KNX Pro started becoming not just a bridge, but a true control center for professional projects.

The Next Step: V3

The V3 update pushed the product even closer to our vision. It brought the Matter Controller, which greatly expanded the possibilities of combining KNX and Matter devices into one system.

But there was also a surprise: the launch of the 1Home Mobile App. Many of you had asked for a native, unified control experience, and with V3 we delivered exactly that. The app allowed full KNX and Matter control in one place without the need for additional hubs for remote access.

Expanding the Ecosystem

With time and more feedback, we recognised the need to also develop use-case-specific servers alongside our flagship product:

While these devices solved specific problems, our flagship was always going to be the one device that did it all. And so...

The V4 Leap

The V4 update brought every feature from those specialized devices into the KNX Pro, making it a true multi-protocol controller.

  • Matter, KNX, Loxone, Crestron Home, all in one
  • IoT Gateway (IoT Mapper) for adding Matter devices into KNX workflows via ETS mapping
  • 1Home Scenes, easily created in the app or dashboard, included in automation flows

Looking Ahead

Two years on, we’ve achieved what we set out to build: the ultimate all-in-one server for smart home professionals.

But we didn’t stop at that initial vision - we went further, uniting everything 1Home offers into our flagship device. And we’re not stopping here. The journey of 1Home Server KNX Pro is only just beginning.
