One of our integrator partners recently shared a great real-world example of how System Monitoring helped him quickly diagnose and resolve a puzzling KNX automation issue for his client.
It's 1Home Automation's fault... or is it?
One early morning, his client contacted him in frustration. The lights in their living area were blinking every three seconds. On, off, on, off. The client suspected something must be wrong with 1Home Automations.
The integrator connected remotely via 1Home Dashboard and opened System Monitoring. Within three minutes, the cause became clear.
It turned out the 1Home Server was not the source of the problem at all. The KNX presence sensor in the room was rapidly toggling presence on and off, which created a loop that kept triggering the lights. But the integrator still needed to understand why the sensor was doing that.
Found the culprit!
By checking the Lux readings, he found the brightness in the room jumping between 90 and 160 Lux. The client had recently upgraded several lights to stronger models, which significantly changed the brightness profile of the space.
Because of this, the thresholds configured on the KNX presence sensor no longer aligned with reality.
The sensor was set to turn lights on above 98 Lux and off below 150 Lux. With the upgraded lighting, the brightness jumped across these values repeatedly, causing an endless on/off cycle.
All's well that ends well
After identifying the issue, the integrator simply adjusted the sensor parameters to match the new lighting conditions, and the problem disappeared instantly.
He told us that without System Monitor, diagnosing this would have been far more difficult. He would have had no clear visibility into what happened and would have had to wait for the issue to reproduce before capturing KNX traffic in ETS Diagnostics.
Thanks to the insights that System Monitoring offers, he solved the problem in minutes and delivered a smooth experience to his client.
